Whale Island is an idyllic tropical paradise located in the beautiful Van Phong Bay. Offering the experience of a stay on a desert island, Whale Island nestles in the middle of coconut palms and offers an expanse of pristine sand. There is only one establishment to stay in, perfectly integrated into these magnificent landscapes.
The name of the island comes from the number of whales present in the archipelago. Legend has it that they would come to save the fishermen. The latter, as well as the inhabitants of the island, worship them.

Travelling to Whale Island is relatively easy. There are two options for travellers:

  1. If you travel from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, choose the flight from the capital cities to Tuy Hoa airport. A shuttle bus will pick you up at the airport for an hour ride and fifteen minutes speedboat ride. One way transfer is about 50 USD*.

  2. You can also reach the island by Nha Trang. The departures from Nha Trang to Dam Mon village are scheduled at 9am and 2pm and from Dam Mon village to Nha Trang at 12am or 4pm. One way transfer costs about 20 USD*. Travellers can also be picked up from Cam Ranh Airport (Nha Trang International). This transfer would take about three hours and costs 80 USD*.

 * Prices can be reduced depending on the number of passengers.

  • Kayaking and Catamarans: If you are a sailing enthusiast, it is a way to discover the island and enjoy the exceptional landscapes and reefs.

To keep the private atmosphere of the island, there is only one resort on Whale Island: Whale Island Resort. So you can enjoy a meal at Whale Island Resort, whether you like European or traditional dishes. The four courses lunch or four courses diner costs 14.5 USD per person per meal.

This only-one-complex-to-stay is made of thirty-five bamboo bungalows with thatched roofs in traditional style. By opening the door of your bungalow, you will be directly on the beach of the island.

The value of this resort is its eco-organization. Indeed, the building is mainly built with non-toxic and environmentally friendly materials. All structures are removable, which will allow the island to return to its natural state in case of the hotel's closure. The resort saves energy by heating the water with solar panels. The water is transported on the island by boat at the same time as the passengers and is recycled thanks to a plant filter system. All non-organic materials are sorted and stored before being transported to the mainland and sent to a recycling centre.

The resort's objective is to leave most of the island untouched in order to preserve its unique collection of wildlife, especially birds. The hiking trails will give you the opportunity to admire magnificent natural landscapes and unique species of fauna and flora. Walking between 15 minutes and 2 hours on the island will allow you to discover the forest, the mangrove swamp on the opposite bay of the island or to enjoy a 360 degree view. Keep your eyes wide open: you may see parrots, muntjacs, water birds or fish eagles.
