WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE RETIRING TO VIETNAM
Spending your retirement in Vietnam has both advantages and inconveniences. The country has beautiful landscapes, good life qualities and low living cost. It is a idyllic place to have a peaceful retirement. But to stay there are many administrative procedures to follow to avoid any problems in particular for the visa.
There is no long term visa that would allow a retired person to settle permanently in Vietnam without to renew his/her visa regularly. Only if you are married to a Vietnamese citizen, in which case, it will be possible to apply for a tourist visa extension, valid for 5 years and renewable.
You should know : if you buy a house or apartment, you get a residence card valid for 50 years which exempts you from the visa application.
You have two choices :
The 3 months visa : you have to contact the vietnamese embassy before arriving and renew it when you get out Vietnam.
After the renewed 3 months visa : By going through an accredited agency in Vietnan, you can apply for a visa valid for one year and renewable indefinitely.
